Hello everyone! I hope you are having a great week and you are getting ready for a spooktacular weekend!
If you joined us for the Ghost Walks this past weekend, you know that once again, it was a huge success. We sold out on Friday and Saturday and were very close to selling out on Sunday. Thank you for attending and thank you to everyone who helped to make the 16th Annual Historic Newburgh Ghost Walks a success!
In this column, I want to talk about our very last event that we will hold in 2009. That event is the 2009 Historic Newburgh Christmas House Tour. This event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. at the historic Old Stone House Estates located off of State Road 662.
The Christmas House Tour is an annual holiday event designed to showcase the beautiful and historic homes in Historic Newburgh. Last year, we highlighted four gorgeous homes on the Christmas House Tour, two of which are featured sites on the State Street Ghost Walk tour.
This year, thanks to the University of Evansville, the owners of the property since 1969, Historic Newburgh, Inc. will feature the Old Stone House on its Christmas House Tour.
This historic home, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1834 and has nine amazing rooms. At the time it was completed, Old Stone House was reported to be the finest home in southern Indiana. There are legends that Abraham Lincoln stayed at the Old Stone House, and that the house was the site of an Underground Railroad station.
Each individual room will be decorated for the holiday season by a local Newburgh business. Some of the businesses participating are: Accent on Flowers, Country Gentleman Antiques, Heart of Newburgh, Mulberry Jeans Accents, The Secret Garden and The Village Knitter, just to name a few. This decor adds the perfect touch for the holiday season.
Tickets for this event are now on sale and are $10 per person in advance or $12 per person the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased by calling HNI at 853-2815.
This is an annual fundraiser for Historic Newburgh, Inc., but this year, part of the proceeds will be donated to a family in need this holiday season. HNI would like to say thank you to the University of Evansville and to the Newburgh businesses for making this event possible.
We hope to see you around town on Dec. 5 and 6 for the Historic Newburgh Christmas House Tour. Have a great weekend!
