Alcoa Warrick Operations' commitment to the Community came through with a big helping hand to the Newburgh Kiwanis. Six Alcoa volunteers - Jeff Mahoney, John Martin, Jack Pruden, Warren Montgomery, Bobby Jones and Larry York - showed up at 7 a.m. one recent morning and started working.
The building was still in need of guttering/downspouts, ceiling insulation and 10 tons of gravel for the driveway.
Even though it has been in use since 2007, this work still needed to be done.
The Newburgh Kiwanis Club is the only Kiwanis group that owns property in the state of Indiana.
The facility is available to many organizations.
President Gil Himbaugh said approximately 700 individuals use the building during the week. Boy Scout Troop 305 uses one half of the building for activities, plus storage space in the garage. Newburgh senior citizens, the Old Dam Band, Girl Scouts and other community organizations have also made use of the community building.
With Alcoa's volunteers assisting with this project, the use of electricity will be decreased and the parking lot will be more accessible. The company donated the guttering.
The Kiwanis wishes to give a special thanks to Bobby Jones and Warren Montgomery for going all out.
Welcome to the discussion.
