Miners get new black lung benefits

OAKLAND CITY — The United Mine Workers of America had  more to celebrate this John L. Lewis Day than in years past, thanks to an amendment to the health care bill that allows miners’ widows to receive benefits.

Cecil B. Roberts, International President of UMWA, explained in a news release about the change in benefits that  prior to the Reagan administration, when a miner who was totally disabled from black lung and was receiving benefits died, his window was able to keep those benefits.
