FLORA - The Mt. Carmel High School freshman volleyball team went 2-2 this weekend at the Flora Freshman Tournament.

The team fell to Toledo Cumberland, 25-16, 25-13, defeated Effingham St. Anthony, 25-23, 25-10, took Salem, 25-17, 25-22, then lost to Olney, 25-16, 21-25, 15-13.

"This group did a great job," said Coach Jenny Hannuksela. "It took them a while to get used to each other and a different lineup. We showed up with only seven players and no setter, but everyone worked hard to help each other out and shared responsibility on the court."

"Although we should have won the last match, this was a fun tournament and a great way to end the season," she said.

In the Cumberland match, Bree Wilkinson had three digs, three kills and four assists. Madi Hannuksela had three digs, two kills and two assists. Chloe Smith had two digs, two kills and a block. Courtney Curtis had a kill and a block. Sarah Shepard had an ace, two digs and an assist.

Wilkinson had an ace, six digs, six kills and four assists against St. Anthony. Hannuksela had two aces, five digs, two kills and four assists. Smith had two aces, eight digs and five kills. Curtis had a dig, four kills and an assist. Madisyn Grounds had an ace and four digs. Shepard had two aces, six digs, a kill and an assist. Danielle Meier had an ace and five digs.

Against Salem, Wilkinson had five aces, four kills, four digs and two assists. Hannuksela had three kills, seven digs and five assists. Smith had four kills and four digs. Curtis had three kills, a dig and an assist. Grounds had an ace and four digs. Shepard had a kill, eight digs and two assists. Meier had an ace and eight digs.

Wilkinson had seven digs, six kills and three assists in the Olney match. Hannuksela had six digs, four kills and three assists. Smith had an ace, five digs, three kills and an assist. Curtis had three kills, a block and one assist. Grounds had two aces, a dig and two assists. Shepard had an ace, four digs, two kills and an assist. Meier had two aces and four digs.
