Joe Keeling and D-Ray Etzkorn

It'll be a rematch in the bid for the office of Wabash County Sheriff in November 2010, but not before a pivotal vote comes in February for two men eyeing a seat on the Wabash County Board of Commissioners.

Wabash County Sheriff Joe Keeling turned in his paperwork ahead of Monday's 5 p.m. deadline to file petitions for the Feb. 2 primary election in Illinois. That pits the local Republican against Sheriff's Deputy and Democrat D-Ray Etzkorn - the same individual he faced on the ballot in 2006.

Etzkorn lost to Keeling by 28 votes that year, a margin that prompted a request for a discovery recount and the reexamination of four of Wabash County's 16 voting precincts.

The recount resulted in a one-vote difference from the election night results; Etzkorn at that point chose not to take any further action.

Being there are only one Republican and one Democrat seeking the office of sheriff, the real race between Etzkorn and Keeling will be determined in the Nov. 2, 2010 General Election.

Before that, however, voters will have to decide who they want seated on the Wabash County Board of Commissioners: Incumbent Craig Racster, or local businessman Rob Dean.

The two are Republicans, so their face-off will occur in the Feb. 2 Primary. No Democrat filed a petition for the commissioner's seat, meaning whoever takes the Primary win is basically guaranteed to be among those sworn into office come December 2010.

Democrats Janet L. Will, seeking the county clerk's post, and Beverly J. McBride, seeking the office of county treasurer, are running unopposed in the upcoming elections.

Will works in the county clerk's office, and is on the ballot to replace longtime County Clerk Marie Kolb, who chose not to see reelection.

McBride, meanwhile, works in the treasurer's office. She is looking to replace Treasurer Larry Briggs - also a longtime elected official in that office - and who also chose not to seek reelection.

The contests for precinct committeeman are as follows:

Mt. Carmel 2: Joeann Dardeen-Williams (R), and Brenda M. Sawyer (D)

Mt. Carmel 6: William C. Hudson (R)

Mt. Carmel 7: Dale E. Siverly (D)

Mt. Carmel 8: Ron Loudermilk (R) and Susan M. Ford (D)

Mt. Carmel 9: Cassandra A. Goldman (D)

Wabash 10: Joe Keeling (R)

Lancaster 12: Craig S. Racster (R) and Joe Hall (D)

Coffee 15: Barbara J. Carrie (D)
